We never did grow out of our love for My Little Pony, which is just as well because fashion has gone head-over-heels for horses this season.

We're excited by everything equestrian right now, not least because of the return of Polo in the City in Belfast's lower Botanic Playing Fields on 25 August.

And with Team GB's equestrian success in the Olympics, we're currently crushing on everything from cute horsey prints to quirky Black Beauty-inspired jewellery.

Horseshoe charms have always been popular, but A/W will see a herd of horse and pony-inspired prints, details and accessories galloping your way.

It's part of the English Country fashion story celebrating the huntin', shootin' and fishin' tweed-and-twinset crowd - but you don't have to go all Princess Anne on us.

An H! by Henry Holland horse jumper from Debenhams (£38) is all you need to show that you're backing the right fashion filly for Autumn/Winter. Warehouse also has a gorgeous horse jumper (£45) in its A/W12 collection (pictured left), but avoid the 'mucking out the stables' look by teaming it with a pair of chic cigarette leg trousers and kitten heels instead of wellie boots and jeans.

The trend has its darker edge too, as seen in fetish brand Punitiveshoes' PonyPlay & More line, featuring real iron horseshoes on the bottom of kinky heel-less platform soled boots.

If that smacks too much of 50 Shades territory, stick to accessories, such as Star by Julien Macdonald's pony tote bag (£89) from Debenhams with its attached stirrups-and-chains-print scarf. Primark has a budget bag option in its mini saddlebag for just £4 - in stores now.

If you want to just nod towards the look, pick up the gold-look horse ditsy necklace by Freedom at Topshop (£6.50).

This is one trend that's not going to trot off any time soon - as part of its Christmas gift collection, Polo Ralph Lauren at House of Fraser has a gorgeous brown leather stirrup key ring for £50.

With pony prints and accessories dominating the style guides until Christmas, will Santa ditch his reindeers for horses next?
