Talk about 'reduce, reuse, recycle' - America's No 1 selling natural soap brand has now launched in the UK and it promises an amazing 18 different uses, and counting!

Green Living always rushes to the Dr Bronner's Magic Soaps aisle in Whole Foods Market during Stateside trips.

Now we can snap it up via www.foodforthoughtuk.com , www.cultbeauty.co.uk and, on jaunts to London, from Planet Organic, Fresh & Wild and Whole Foods (for more stockists, visit www.kinetic4health.co.uk).

Dr. Bronner started making his liquid soap in the 1940s, when austerity wasn't just chic, it was essential.

So it made sense that the Doc focused on affordability and versatility, turning his soaps and body products into ideal household accessories.

dr.bronner.jpgMade from natural ingredients, you can dilute them to shave, shower or shampoo, clean your mouth and teeth, clean fruit and vegetables and even your bathroom, kitchen and clothes.

You can make it into a deodorant, a pest spray and use it to give your pets the once over too.

It's an essential item to have around the house or take on holiday with you (they're great for campers).

It's certified organic by the US Department of Agriculture and each year the company gives away a large portion of its profits to charity.

In the UK, 20p from the sale of every bottle goes to War Child International, a network of independent organisations that works across the globe to help children affected by war.

The soaps contain no synthetic foaming agents, thickeners, preservatives, fragrances, dyes or whiteners and use 100 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) cylinder bottles and paper labels.

Completely biodegradable, they're made with certified Fair Trade and organic ingredients sourced from India, Ghana, Palestine, Israel, and Sri Lanka.

Eminem and Drew Barrymore are both fans, and make-up guru Bobbi Brown loves it so much she told Oprah: "It's probably the finest soap in the universe. I'm obsessed with it. I cannot get enough of it!"

It comes in 7 main varieties, the original being tingly peppermint, followed by lavender, eucalyptus, citrus, almond, rose, unscented baby mild and tea tree, which can even be used to treat minor cuts.

Apart from flavouring organic essential oils such peppermint, the base soap ingredients are water, saponified organic coconut, organic palm and organic olive oils (w/retained glycerin), organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil, essential oils, citric acid and vitamin E.

We also love the famously wordy and philosophical labels, which are crammed with advice, eco pronouncements and various other exhortations and words of wisdom.

Although Dr. Bronner passed away in 1997, his company flourishes under the guidance of his family and remains true the founder's philosophy of sharing profit with the workers by capping the salaries of its highest paid employees/owners at five times that of the lowest paid full time employee.

Each 236ml bottle costs £4.50; the Hemp Pure Castile Soap is £4.99; travel size bottles are £2.99 and solid bars are £3.50.
